Richard Lloyd

 

I first entered the insurance industry in 1987 working for a Kent-based brokerage handling general insurance, life assurance, pensions, investments and mortgages; then in 1992 I joined the Lawrence Insurance Group, a long-standing community broker based in Sevenoaks, Kent.

 

Over the following 17 years, I progressed to General Manager and in the process worked in all areas of the business, building comprehensive and practical broking knowledge of all commercial insurance classes as well as advising on personal cover and handling claims. I also specialised in designing IT reports to provide both extra information to clients and improve our presentations to insurers.

 

In 2008, when the business was sold to a national broker, I was appointed Operations Manager for their South East hub and in January 2009 was awarded their ‘Newcomer of the Year’ award.

 

However, I became increasingly uncomfortable with the changes that corporate consolidation was bringing to the broking industry and wanted to be able to offer businesses an independent, professional alternative.

 

My belief is that there is mutual benefit if an insurance broker works in long-term partnership with their clients and this stance is shared by my fellow directors at Riverside Insurance Brokers Ltd.
